The Vigilante Extreme ZipRider at Shepherd of the Hills Complex
"What is it?"
An exciting new thrill ride! The ZipRider zip line cable is based on the familiar concept of the back yard zip line but then turns that fun experience into an exciting, no-worries ride. The key lies in the ZipRider trolley, a device designed to automatically brake while the rider descends cable gradients ranging from 5%-40%.
"How does it work?"
Each rider is comfortably seated in a special harness without needing multiple harness sizes or staging areas for fitting. The ride operator will open the gates at the launch site, the riders fly out the doors with no responsibilities other than to enjoy the ride. The rider will not control their speed or braking. As the rider approaches the end of the ride, the trolley enters a patented terminal brake acceptor and dampening system, which slows the ride to a stop. Once stopped, the guest walks out of the harness and away from the ride. The Vigilante ZipRider will carry guests downhill 1/2 a mile across the historic 160 acre homestead at speeds reaching 50 mph!
"Where will it launch?"
The open-air observation deck on Inspiration Tower. Built in 1989, the Tower stands 230' above one of the highest points in SW Missouri. There are 2 - 25 passenger glass elevators that carry guests to the top.

"Where does the name come from?"
The name pays homage to our unique heritage. The Baldknobbers were a group of vigilantes that were infamous in the Ozark Mountains in the late 1800's and play an important role in The Shepherd of the Hills story.
"Other locations?"
The Vigilante Extreme ZipRider will be the 11th ZipRider" in the world. They currently operate rides in Utah, California, Alaska, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Siberia and Switzerland.
