Ricky Nelson Remembered
Performing At American Bandstand Theater
“Ricky Nelson Remembered Starring Matthew & Gunnar Nelson” returns to Branson in April! Few tribute shows feature an artist’s actual family members; the difference is amazing…you can see Ricky in their handsome faces and charming smiles, and hear his echo in their talented voices, the experience is like peeking into his soul, and it’s something you’ll cherish for years to come. For every one of us who grew up with Ricky Nelson on our television sets and radios, his biography seems hardly necessary; but for all those who love great music, and who are about to become fans, you’ll learn that Nelson is truly legendary. He’s a Grammy-winning artist with a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His real-life family entertained us on the weekly sitcom, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, a show that also starred his brother, David, and his music industry parents. When Matthew and Gunnar, known as the rock band, Nelson, nabbed the #1 spot on Billboard’s chart for (Can’t Live Without) Your Love and Affection, it put the Nelson’s in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family in entertainment history with three generations of #1 hit songs. Ricky scored number one status with Travelin’ Man and Poor Little Fool, and Ozzie Nelson & His Orchestra hit the top of the charts with And Then Some in 1935.
Ricky Nelson’s music was introduced on the family’s sitcom, beginning with his cover of I’m Walkin’; the song sold a million copies in one week, a feat unheard of in that day and age. Many other hits followed, including It’s Up to You, Never Be Anyone Else But You, Young World, Sweeter Than You, and Hello, Mary Lou. In the 70’s, it was the easy-going rock song, Garden Party, that brought Nelson back into the world of hit music; the song was his way of sharing his experience of trying to perform new music before a Madison Square Garden crowd that was hoping to hear the hits from his early career. Between his dark, Elvis Presley-style, good looks and charm, and a voice that made girls swoon, Ricky Nelson captured the world’s attention and cemented his place in music, movie, and television history before his sons were even born.
Using personal memories of their famous father, rarely viewed family video footage, and the iconic music he created, the Nelson boys will remind us all why we loved the music and adored the man…it’s “Ricky Nelson Remembered Starring Matthew & Gunnar Nelson,” and it’s coming to Branson; grab the chance to get tickets now before they’re gone!
